The No. 2-ranked Japan defeated the No. 1-ranked U.S. Women’s National Team to win the gold medal of the 2024 WBSC World Cup held in Castions di Strada, Italy.
The 6-1 loss broke Team USA’s winning streak of three straight WBSC World Cup titles. It won the Silver medal, while Canada won the Bronze.
Japan thrashed the Team USA, despite it took a 1-0 lead in the first inning the credit of which goes to outfielder Amanda Lorenz, who delivered an RBI single. But Japan scored six unanswered runs to secure the victory.
With this performance Japan has an impressive tally of World Cup medals, having previously won in 2014, 2012 and 1970. Their medal record now stands at four gold, seven silver, and two bronze.
Till to date USA, Japan, Australia and New Zealand are the winners of the Women’s Softball World Cup. USA is the most decorated team in the World Cup history with 12 gold medals.
