LONDON: England collapsed to 20 for six — the first time in an ODI that 6 wickets had fallen in the first five overs.
Fast bowler Rabada took 4 wickets for 12 runs in the first three overs. This spell of his sparked a dramatic England collapse as South Africa won by seven wickets to record a consolation win in the 3rd ODI. Rabada finished with 4 wickets for 39 in nine overs.
England were only able to reach the total of 153 runs with a helping fifty by Jonny Bairstow. But as expected it was not a worthy total and South Africa reached 156 with three wickets having fallen. The winning score was sealed with a four by JP Duminy off David Willey.
Although, England won the series 2-1 but this was a morale-boosting success for the South Africans especially ahead of the Champions Trophy which commences next week’s.
Rabada commenting upon his success said:
“There was something there for the bowlers today that all of us could capitalise,”
“There was a bit in the wicket in the first 10 overs and a bit of a bounce, which bodes well for the Champions Trophy.”
