Special Olympics World Summer Games ’19: 134 Member Contingent To Represent PakistanÂ
LAHORE: The upcoming Special Olympics World Summer Games 2019 are scheduled to be organized at Dubai and Abu Dhabi from March 14, 2019.
The opening ceremony will take place on March 14, 2019 at Dubai.
The Pakistan’s 134-member contingent will be participating in the Special Olympics World Summer Games. Prior to the mega event, Pakistan contingent will take part in practice sessions and warm up matches at Sharjah.
Pakistan players will be participate in Cycling, Powerlifting, Athletics, Bocce, Badminton, Table tennis, Football, Tennis and Futsal events during the grand sports event.
The 33 members of Pakistan Special Olympic contingent departed from Lahore while the remaining participants will reach UAE from different cities of Pakistan.
Ronak Lakhani and Special Olympics Pakistan Vice-chairman Anees ur Rehman is leading the Pakistan contingent.
At the closing ceremony, the Special Olympics flag will be handed over to Sweden as the hosts of Special Olympics World Winter Games 2021.
Special Olympics Pakistan Vice-chairman Anees ur Rehman expressed his gratitude to DG Sports Punjab for facilitating Pakistan special athletes in best possible manner during training for the grand sporting event.
Director General Sports Punjab said, “Pakistan athletes are very talented and well prepared for the sports extravaganza.” He added that, “Sports Board Punjab provided best training facilities to Pakistan contingent for the preparation of Special Olympics World Summer Games.”
Special Olympics based on a global movement which started in 1968, is the largest philanthropic sporting event in the world which focuses on the empowering People of intellectual disabilities through the power of sports.
With 200 million people with intellectual disabilities around the world, the goal is also to reach every one of them along with their families.
During 2019, the Special Olympics World Games will be hosted during March 2019, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This is the first time that this event is being held the Middle East North Africa, since the movement’s started more than 50 years ago.
Over 7,000 athletes from over 170 countries will be competing in various sports, and activities to be held in the seven Emirates.
To organize the 2019 event, the LOC – Local Organization Committee was formed in 2017. LOC also has the credit of organizing the Special Olympics IX MENA Games 2018.
