LAHORE: Jubilee Insurance/Master Paints and Diamond Paints won the inaugural matches of the Outfitters-sponsored Shah Rafi Alam Polo Cup 2018 played here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on Tuesday.
In the first encounter of the day, Jubilee Insurance/Master Paints outpaced Army by 8½-2. Edward Banner emerged as top scorer from Jubilee Insurance by hammering a hat-trick while Hamza Mawaz Khan and Aun Rizvi struck two goals each and they had also one and half goal handicap advantage. From Army, both the goals were converted by Luis Mighal Duggan.
Jubilee Insurance stamped their authority right from the start as they thwarted two goals to take 2-0 lead. The only goal of the second chukker came from Army to reduce the margin to 2-1. Jubilee Insurance once again displayed quality polo and pumped in three tremendous goals to further enhance their lead to 5-1 while one goal was slammed in by Army to reduce the deficit to 5-2. The fourth and last chukker was also fully dominated by Jubilee Insurance as they banged in two more goals to finish the match having 7-2 lead. With one and half goal handicap advantage, Jubilee Insurance won the match 8½-2. Hernan Pieres and Bilal Haye supervised the match as field umpires.
In the second encounter of the day, which was played among Master Paints Black, Diamond Paints and Artema Medical under American system, Diamond Paints turned out to be the winners. They first defeated Artema Medical 3-2 and then outclassed Master Paints Black, who had earlier routed Artema Medical 3-1, with the a margin of 4-0.
Two matches will be played on Wednesday, as Outfitters will vie against Barry’s in the first encounter at 2:00 pm while Guard Group will play against Rijas/Green Orchard in the second encounter at 3:00 pm.
