Serena Williams qualified for the Top Seed Open quarter finals by beating her sister Venus Williams 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4. In her first match Serena beat Bernarda Pera.
Serena lost the first set 3-6 and won the second set by 6-3. In the third set initially Serena was losing 2-4 but then she played some match winning shots to win the match 6-4.
The 38 years old Serena is two years younger than Venus but she has psychological advantages over her sister. The former World number 1, Serena has won 19 of the 31 matches played between the two sisters. Plus, Serena has 23 Grand Slam victories to her credit as compared to 7 Grand Slam titles of Venus. Further, Serena had been WTA World Tennis Association World number 1 for 8 times spanning over time of 319 weeks, while Venus had been WTA top ranked for only 3 times for 11 weeks.
Top Seed Open is being held at Lexington, Kentucky, USA from 10th-16th August.
Serena has also confirmed her willingness to play US Open set to be held from 31st August to 13th September and is confident to beat the defending champion Bianca Andreescu. Serena lost the final match of US Open 2019 against her.
