Usman Khan is set to become the first Pakistani athlete to represent the country in Equestrian sports at Tokyo Olympics next year.

He has qualified for the 2020 Olympics after securing top positions in different races conducted by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) in 2019.

Lahore born Usman will participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics games along with his horse named ‘Azad Kashmir (Free Kashmir)’ and has been placed in the Group F.

Usman Khan will be joining other Pakistani athletes who have also qualified for Tokyo Olympics. They include Arshad Nadeem in Athletics and Gufam Joseph, Ghulam Mustafa Bashir and Muhammad Khalil in shooting categories.

Olympics qualifier recently spoke to media about his passion for horse-riding and the 15-year long struggle to achieve the impossible feat all on his own.

He candidly narrated the efforts he had to undertake in order to top the charts in international championships from dealing with physical injuries occurred during rigorous training to the delicate care and grooming of his horse and the financial strain of managing all of this on his own.

Usman particularly lamented the absolutely dismal situation of financing and sponsorship opportunities for athletes in Pakistan and stressed on the need for government support for such athletic activities.
