With the resumption of many sports around the globe, the NBA-National Basketball Association has
approved of the 22-team resumption plan and is set to restart from 31st July 2020.
The delayed 2019-2020 season was rumoured to recommence with 30 teams competing, however, the Board of Governors dismissed any such plans approving the restart with 22 teams only.
The matches would be held at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando in the
absence of any spectators.
Twenty-nine out of the thirty top teams voted in favour of the resumption, with Portland being the only one against it.
As per the re-planned schedule, the playoffs shall be starting in August with the final taking place on 12th October 2020. Furthermore, the start date of the 2020-21 season has also been decoded and is set to begin from 1 st December this year.
An official of the NBA has said that the authority is confident of the safe resumption of the sport and
are trying their level best to keep the players and the staff safe. Medical experts and advisers are
formulating the protocols for the restart and shall be out soon.
The season had been postponed on 11th March owing to the outbreak of the corona virus. As of now,
at least 10 players including an unnamed player from the Pittsburgh Penguins have tested positive
for the virus.
The fate of other sports leagues, such as, the MLB-Major League Baseball in the United States still
remains uncertain.
