Julio Urias, the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher was arrested on late Sunday night due to felony domestic violence charges.
27 year old Urias was released early morning on US$ 50,000 bail, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff´s Department booking records.
According to reports, the pitcher is to report in court on 27th September. Further, the MLB-Major League Baseball plans to investigate the matter.
This is the second time the Mexican born pitcher has been arrested. First time was in May 2019 for domestic battery. Due to which he was suspended by MLB for 20 games, however, the Los Angeles city attorney did not prosecute him, based on an understanding that Urias would complete a domestic violence counseling program of 52 weeks.
The Dodgers are scheduled to travel on Monday to Miami, Florida where they commence a six-game trip against the Marlins. The Dodgers management issued a statement stating that ‘We are aware of an incident involving Julio Urias. While we attempt to learn all the facts, he will not be traveling with the team.’
During the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Urias played a major role in Dodgers winning the World Series. Presently, he is playing on a one-year contract worth US$ 14.25million.
