Sheldon Cottrell hit a spectacular six on the second last ball of the last over to give the West Indies a last-minute victory with only one wicket remaining against Ireland in the second One Day International match.
West Indies remained trailing the 238 target despite losing wickets consistently but managed to take the match to the very last ball aided by Nicholas Pooran’s 52 (44) and Hayden Walsh Jr’s unbeaten 46*(51).
Ireland had scored 237 for 9 wickets in their 50 overs batting earlier at Kensington Oval thanks to opener Paul Sterling’s 63 and the tail end support by Simi Singh’s 34.
Alzarri Joseph claimed 4 wickets for 32 runs and Sheldon Cottrell took 3 for 51 to limit the visitors to a manageable target of 238 in 50 overs.
West Indian Pacer Joseph was named man of the match due to 4 wickets spell giving off just 32 runs in 10 overs that he bowled along with crucial 16 runs partnership with Walsh in death overs.
The thrilling victory also provided the West Indies with an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series between two sides.
