Highlights:
- This was the first time that the World Cup hosts, Russia had reached the quarter-finals since the breakup of the Soviet Union.
- Croatia were clearly the better team of the two while Russia had a superior strategy and home support.
- Unsurprisingly, in the 1st half of the match, Russian star, Denis Cheryshev scored from long range to put his team in the lead.
- However, it took Croatia only 9 minutes to equalize the scoreboard as Andrej Kramaric became the 7th player to score for Croatia in this World Cup.
- In the 2nd-half several attempts were made by both teams to score the tie-breaker but no goals were scored by either team as the match went into extra time.
- Croatia’s Domagoj Vida finally scored at the 100th minute to put Croatia in the lead.
- But, the Russians did not lose hope as 15 minutes later, Mario Figueira struck a brilliant header into the nets and the match went into penalty shootouts.
- After two penalties the scores were level i.e. 1-1, however, Russia missed another penalty and Croatia struck three in a row to shatter the Russian dreams.
Russia leaves the World Cup with pride and dignity. They did their best and played till their last breath. Their supporters should be proud of them #RUSCRO

Putin: Deliver a missile to Croatia. Make sure they don’t find Rakitic’s body. Don’t tell anyone I sent you.
Trump: Roger that. pic.twitter.com/ZRQQfJ0RyA

Proud for Lovren and Henderson playing a massive part of progressing to the World Cup semi finals for Croatia and England. Both have had a lot of stick last season for LFC but they’ve had a good year for us. Proud for Trent as well, first international tournament for him at 19.

The Russians should be proud of what they’ve achieved.
They are the lowest ranked team in a competition like the world cup and they got a last 8 ticket.
Round of applause ???..So who’s winning the 2018 world cup…. France, Croatia, Belgium or England??
