World Scrabble Championship ’18 : World Champions – Nigel (Div A) & Hammad (Div B)
ENGLAND: Nigel Richards of New Zealand confirmed his status as the greatest scrabble player of all time by winning the world Scrabble Championship for the fourth time. No other player has won the world championship more than once.
Interestingly, the Scrabble game also celebrated 70 years of being one of the most famous board games.
The two finalists of the Division A played the best of 5 final in London at Westfield shopping center, in a purpose build sound proof glass cage watched by a large crowd and televised live.

Jesse Day made a dream start to the final with a big win in the first game but the GOAT calmly took the next three to win the title.
Presently living in Malaysia, the 51 year old Nigel made the the word “groutier” to become the 2018 champion. The word, meaning – cross, sulky or sullen, scored 68 points, thereby, enabling Nigel to win by 575 points over Jesse Day of USA.

The final of the Division B were held in Torquay, England.
Hammad Hadi Khan of Pakistan won the biggest title of his young career by beating compatriot Imaad Ali in the final.
It has been a great 12 months for Hammad as he won the Princess Cup tournament in Thailand, was 3rd in the Champions Trophy in Karachi and a runner up in the Junior World Scrabble Championship
12 year old Imaad Ali, the reigning under-14 world champion, exceeded all expectations by reaching the final but the experience of Hammad proved to be the deciding factor.
The final scores were 472-439, 594-452, 366-373, 457-355
16 year old Sohaib Sanaullah finished 3rd.
Tariq Pervez at 4th was the only senior player in a championship dominated by the youth even though most of the participants were adults
Hassan Hadi Khan, Daniyal Sanaullah and Hasham Hadi Khan finished 5th, 6th and 7th. Division B was an all out Pakistan event.
Timothy Lawrence was the top non Pakistani finishing 8th.
The 6 Youth World Scrabble 2018 champion titles are also with Pakistan, with the main Junior World Champion 2018 being Moiz Ullah Baig.
