Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused by the Spanish prosecutors of defrauding the authorities of millions in tax from 2011 to 2014.

Denying the accusation Ronaldo’s Gestifute management company stated that “It is clear that the football player did not try to evade taxes.” It further added that the footballer had not concealed any income or defrauded the Spanish tax authorities.

The prosecutor’s office has filed a lawsuit against Ronaldo accusing him of evading tax of 14.7m euros.

Ronaldo according to Forbes’ for the second successive year is the world’s highest-paid sportsperson. His earning in 2016 totalled $93m (£72m).

During December 2016, documents were leaked which advocated that Ronaldo had avoided tax on income allegedly held in offshore accounts. Ronaldo had also denied this allegations and added that he was not worried about tax investigations as he had nothing to hide.
